Just One Drink turns a supposedly harmless Friday night into an increasingly complicated chain of bad decisions.

What begins with a single drink quickly grows into unpaid bar tabs, taxi debts, missing money and a growing cast of people who all seem to know someone who owes someone else. At the center of it all is Rico — the kind of friend who can turn one quick round into an all-night financial investigation.

Musically, the track combines fast, rolling boogie-woogie piano with deep Jamaican dancehall bass, syncopated riddims and rhythmic storytelling vocals. Rather than simply switching between the two genres, the piano continuously pushes against the laid-back bounce of the dancehall groove, giving the track its unusual rhythmic character.

The verses drive the story forward almost continuously, using names, escalating situations and interconnected details as the night becomes progressively more complicated. The relaxed vocal phrasing keeps the narrative clear while the piano provides constant forward motion underneath.

Humorous, energetic and built around a complete story, Just One Drink follows one simple rule: when somebody says “just one drink,” it probably won’t be just one.
