About Dating In 2026
“Dating in 2026” takes a humorous look at how finding love has changed — from coffee dates, long conversations and the simple question “Will you go with me?” to profiles, matches, talking stages, situationships and relationships nobody seems willing to call relationships.
Carl Thorns tells the story from the perspective of someone trying to understand the unwritten rules of modern dating. Two people can text every day, spend their weekends together, meet each other’s friends, sleep together and genuinely develop feelings — while somehow both still remain technically single.
But the song isn’t about claiming that everything was better in the past. Modern dating offers more freedom, more choice and more ways to connect than ever before. It just comes with a strange new vocabulary — and a rulebook that apparently everybody received except the narrator.
Driven by fast storytelling rap, 90s boom-bap drums, Jamaican reggae and dancehall influences, subtle Latin rhythms and occasional double-time passages, “Dating in 2026” turns that confusion into an energetic and playful observation of modern relationships.
Everybody knows what everybody did. Nobody knows what anybody is.
